Today was a rest day for S whilst I got the opportunity to do a tour of Nishiki Market and a cooking class. After lunch we both went out and explored for a little bit and ended up at Chion-in Temple, which is set on the side of a mountain.
Chion-in Temple (Kyoto)
We stopped at the bottom level, because this is a LOT of steps to haul S and his wheelchair up & it was starting to rain (that was our excuse)

These are therapy dogs who work with people nursing homes - they very kindly let me pat them.

Nishiki Market
A store in Nishiki Market selling locally produced Sake
The chicken store in Nishiki Market. The bottles with the red lids are bottles of chicken stock made on site.

Prawns to be grilled, Nishiki Market
Half the stores have this sign ("Do not eat whilst walking") and the other half have signs that say "Please buy and eat whilst walking" - there seems to be a bit of a mixed message happening
Boloniya Bread Store - individually wrapped slices of bread.
Tempura Donburi, Miso soup, fish cakes from the market and daikon and yuku pickles, plus three types of sake for tasting.
This is the first time I've made tempura - it wasn't as scary as I thought. This is prawn, scallop and mixed vegetable tempura.
